Digging Deeper: The FinLit Fanatics Summer Book Club
Happy summer fellow FinLit Fanatics! We know you all like to spend some of your summer catching up on reading and thought we would start a FinLit Fanatics Book Club this summer! Our Facebook Page will be where you will find all book club information, reminders, check-ins and polls. Look for posts from Laura, Tim, or me!
We’ve come up with some themes and narrowed down the book list, but we’d like to put the final book selection each month up for a vote. For the month of June we are focusing on books that offer everything you need to know about personal finance between their covers. Here is the list of three:
- I Will Teach You To Be Rich (Ramit Sethi)
- The Index Card (Olen and Pollack)
- Simple Path to Wealth: Roadmap to Financial Independence and Rich, Free Life (JL Collins)
Which one would you like to read? Laura created a poll on Friday (6/1) and it looks like I Will Teach You To Be Rich is in the lead, but it’s not too late to vote! We will confirm June’s winner later this week, and begin with weekly check-ins next week.
The current plan is to have the book selected by the first week of the month. We will have weekly check-in posts on the group page with a question or observation as we get through the book. You all, of course, are encouraged to comment as you wish. Our virtual book club will take place the last Thursday of the month. Instructions on how and when to join in will also be on the Facebook page (we are planning on using Zoom meeting software, so up to 100 of you can participate at once!!!) and we may do another poll to choose a time of day that will be convenient for the largest number of you.
As a preview, for the month of July we are looking at books on investing:
- Random Walk Down Wall Street (Malkiel)
- Winning the Loser's Game (Ellis)
- The Little Book of Common Sense Investing (Bogle)
And we are compiling a list for August that covers financial topics and social implications. Here are two titles we are considering, but we are open to suggestions (you can leave a comment on the current post with the poll).
- Financial Diaries (Morduch and Schneider)
- Paying the Price (Sara Goldrick-Rab)
To those of you who are already on your summer break, enjoy! And to the rest of you, hang on, you are almost there!!!
Happy reading everyone!
