Question of the Day: What social media platform reaches 90% of 13-24 year-olds?
QoD: Question: 90% of 13-24 year olds use which social media app?
Answer: Snapchat
Questions:
- Raise your hand if you use Snapchat. Do you believe this statistic based on your class?
- What do you like about Snapchat? Are these things that would attract older users? Do you know older people who use it?
- Snapchat doesn’t want you to “age-out” of the platform. What sorts of features could Snapchat add that might keep you active as you get older or get older folks interested?
Behind the numbers (WSJ): Over half of Snapchat users are between the ages of 13 and 24. Attracting and maintaining older users is an issue. Targeting Gen Z is not a bad strategy, as this cohort is growing worldwide. The challenge will be to keep them on board as they age.
"Snapchat accounted for 8.3% of all downstream mobile internet traffic as of February, 2019, according to network intelligence company Sandvine, behind YouTube and Facebook, but ahead of Instagram, WhatsApp and Netflix."

Tim Ranzetta
Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
